The news is filled with instructions on how to stay safe out there. Social distancing, wearing masks, and other ways to protect yourself during this Pandemic. But how about instructions for staying safe "in" there? Cybercriminals are ramping up their efforts to steal your money and they will leave no stone unturned.
Remind your friends, children, or elderly parents what they should be doing when it comes to opening email links and web ads. The WYDaily came out with a good list of things to remember during the stay-at-home order and beyond.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU:
You don't want to be a victim of identity theft and have to deal with repairing your credit report while dealing with a pandemic.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
If you will not need to open credit accounts within the next few months, place an initial fraud alert with Experian. It only takes five minutes but can save you a lot of headache in the future. Or call 1-800-525-6285 and follow the steps by phone.
Follow the guidelines for safe web browsing and ordering. Check out the article on WYDaily here. If you think you have been a victim of a scam, reach out to the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Section at 1-800-552-9963.
Also, consider signing up for home cybersecurity software through Sophos. Their software will actively scan your computers for threats and "quarantine" them for removal.
