Marina at Jamestown for Sale – What that Means for the Only Waterfront Commercial Property in the Area
  • James City County seeks buyers for the James City County Marina, located on Powhatan Creek, acquired in 2006.
  • Investments made by the county:
    • Added Billsburg Brewery as a tenant.
    • Replaced aging docks with modern ones, including upgraded fueling and pump-out stations.
    • Created environmentally-enhanced shoreline areas.
    • Developed a Master Plan for future expansion, including more boat slips, marine services, a waterfront restaurant, and parking.
  • Goal of sale: Attract private sector investment to develop the Marina into a waterfront destination while preserving its historic context.
  • County perspective:
    • Initially, few commercial operators were interested due to the Marina’s condition.
    • County investments have made it a valuable community asset, potentially better suited for private development.

    • Requires approval from the Board of Supervisors.
    • CarverCo LLC, a Richmond-based firm, retained to market and sell the property.
