I had to make a stop in Ford’s Colony last week and came upon the guardhouse to get “checked-in” by security for my visit. They asked for my driver’s license which I didn’t think was such a bad thing. Imagine my surprise when they whipped out a scanner and scanned the back of my license and quickly printed out a label that included my name, anticipated destination along with directions. At first blush, this was very cool. And I thought, “hey, this is pretty darn convenient.”. Then I began to wonder, what information had Ford’s Colony just taken off my driver’s license, where does that information go, how long is it stored, etc?
A few hours later, curiosity got the better of me so I called the Ford’s Colony community services department who quickly redirected me to the security office. I spoke with Crystal who couldn’t tell me where the information went except to say that the “dwelling live.com” vendor stores the information, not Ford’s Colony. But who has access to it and for how long? She couldn’t answer and directed me to call Dwelling Live which I did. Unfortunately, I was only able to get a voicemail box and was instructed to leave a message.
When you go to the doctor’s office and are offer a printed copy of privacy policies. Ford’s Colony should do the same by having on hand at each guard house, a printed copy of their privacy policy available upon request. I still haven’t been able to secure a copy from the Dwelling Live vendor and hope to find out where all that driver’s license information goes. Until then, I’ll be keeping my license to myself and visiting Kingsmill instead.
